Wine can elevate a good meal to a whole new level. Whether you’re in the mood for a tasting menu with carefully selected pairings, an Italian dinner with a glass of red, or tapas and authentic Spanish wines, Prague is home to many establishments which devote just as much care to the wine as they do to the cuisine. Here’s our selection of restaurants with award-winning wine lists and experienced sommeliers.

Café Savoy

Café Savoy’s wine selection features carefully curated wines which focus on the Old World, from France and Italy to Germany and Austria. Under the leadership of sommelier Ondřej Pěnička, who has been with Savoy since 2006, the selection has grown from 30 to 500 bottles. This is primarily thanks to his clear vision, meticulous process, and passion for constantly discovering new winemakers and regions.

The wine list combines classic wine regions with discoveries you might not find elsewhere. The wine collection, built up over the years, includes primarily German and Austrian Rieslings, Pinot Noir, and Grüner Veltliner from the most renowned regions. But there’s also no shortage of orange wines, Schilcher rosé, or exceptional sparkling wines from England, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

Café Savoy’s wine list was awarded a silver medal in the Austrian Wine List category at the 2025 Star Wine List of the Year International Open competition. And in 2026, the jury awarded Café Savoy a Silver Star in the Best Medium-Sized List category at the Global Final. This confirmed that Café Savoy’s wine list ranks among the world’s best.

A tip from the sommelier: What to try at Café Savoy?

“At Café Savoy, you can enjoy wine pairings throughout the entire menu, from breakfast to classic dishes. Wiston Estate Brut pairs perfectly with an English breakfast, while a croissant with scrambled eggs and black truffle goes well with Billecart-Salmon Extra Brut champagne. For main courses, I recommend trying the traditional chicken in paprika with spaetzle paired with a Klaus Federspiel Grüner Veltliner from the Wachau, confit duck leg with red cabbage and dumplings paired with a 2023 Pinot Noir from Rudolf Fürst of Franconia, or a Viennese schnitzel with a 2025 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Rotes Tor from Franz Hirtzberger. A more robust Tournedos Rossini pairs wonderfully with a 2021 Barolo Bussia from Giacomo Fenocchio, while Parisian tartare is accompanied by a juicy and fresh 2022 Morgon Côte du Py from Jean Foillard.”

Pasta Fresca

What would an Italian meal be without a glass of wine? At Pasta Fresca, they know this all too well. The menu features hundreds of wines from Bohemia, Moravia, and Italy, from red, white and rosé, to sparkling wines and champagne, selected in collaboration with suppliers both locally or in Italy.

They’ll recommend the best by the glass, or they’ll open a whole bottle for you. Their wine cellar also features exclusive wines from prestigious wineries and exceptional vintages for those who want to taste something truly unique.

Alma

Wine plays just as essential a role at Alma as food does, and the extensive wine list curated by head sommelier Dragan Bogdanović offers precisely the flavours and values that the kitchen embraces. “From the very beginning, I built it around both local wines and distinctive selections from abroad. Over time, I also became the director of our distribution company, Alma Wines, which allows us to select and import wines very specifically, based on the needs of the restaurant, our menu, and the guests across our entire Kro Kitchen network, which includes Alma,” explains the sommelier.

Here you’ll taste wines from winemakers who avoid unnecessary chemicals both in the vineyard and in the cellar, whether they produce avant-garde or classic wines, from traditional regions or off-the-beaten-path areas. A significant portion of the wine list comes from the portfolio of Alma Wines, the wine bar located right next door.

After a glass at Alma, they also offer wines from the White Labels series, Milan Nestarec’s top-tier line. “This is another way we try to make wines accessible to our guests that are usually served only by the bottle in restaurants,” adds Dragan Bogdanovič.

A tip from the sommelier: What should you try at Alma?

“I would definitely recommend the poached pikeperch with Milan Nestarec’s WTB 2022 — this full-bodied Moravian Veltliner beautifully highlights the delicacy of the fish and the smoky notes of the sauce. Another great choice are the spaetzle with mushroom sauce paired with the Doma 2023 orange wine from Naboso, which pairs perfectly with the earthiness of the mushrooms and the fermented notes. And if you’re in the mood for beef tartare, reach for the Fleurie ‘Charbonnieres’ 2024 from Domaine Chapel. Gamay adds juiciness, freshness, and a subtle spiciness to this dish, demonstrating why this variety is definitely worth your attention.”

Skô

Here, you can sample Slovak dishes alongside draft beer and a selection of wines by the glass. Naturally, Slovak wines dominate the menu. “We want to show that they’re excellent and incredibly diverse. Slovakia has diverse soil types, extending all the way to Tokaj, and many winemakers there produce excellent wines that aren’t very well known here. We’d like to broaden our guests’ horizons,” says sommelier Linda Novohradská. However, you’ll also find wines from the Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and France on the list.

Linda carefully selects wines with a story behind them and prefers to work with smaller winemakers whom she knows personally. In addition to bottled wine, they also offer wine by the glass, because they believe that when handled properly, it can be just as good as bottled wine.

On tap, you can try wines from Slovak winemakers Naboso, David Kušický, Svobodné vinařství, and United Cellars of Tekov.

A tip from the sommelier: The best Slovak-style pairing

“From the menu, I recommend Koložvár cabbage with pork cheek (koložvárska kapusta s bravčovým líčkom), because it’s my favourite dish. And to go with it, a Frankovka from Jan Záborský — Wild Beauty — which has a pleasant acidity. It pairs beautifully with sour cabbage and sour cream, yet it isn’t overly heavy. We serve Frankovka both chilled and at room temperature. In this case, I’d opt for a less chilled version, which is more elegant and creamy. It’s a fruitier, lighter wine that pairs beautifully with food.”

Čestr

At Čestr, Czech beef is the star of the show, but they also pay close attention to wine. Manager Igor Bejtic curates the wine list, which is designed to complement various preparations of steaks and other meat dishes, from crisp white wines to full-bodied reds that pair excellently with aged beef.

In addition to Moravian wineries, the list also features carefully selected wines from France, Italy, Austria, and Spain. Čestr even has its own wine — Cuvée Čestr from Mr. and Mrs. Bystřický or Čestr 2023 Riesling from the Bidule Winery.

It’s worth letting the waitstaff make the recommendations. They’ll help you choose a wine that complements the flavours of the meat and side dishes, making the entire dining experience even more fulfilling.

A tip from the sommelier: How are wines paired at Čestr?

“Our sommelier’s tip features wines that we select specifically from the wine list and aren’t regularly available by the glass — so that guests can taste something special.”

At Čestr, entire cuts of pork and beef from Přeštice Black-Pied pigs and Czech Fleckvieh cattle are baked in a low-temperature sauna, a process which took over half a year to develop. We also braise, boil, or grill over charcoal. For us, it's not enough to just buy from wherever – we select specific animals from trusted suppliers, paying attention to how they are treated and fed. Then, we process the meat ourselves, and leave it to cure.

Wine pairing

If you want to taste the best the restaurant has to offer, choose the tasting menu with wine pairings. It is the collaboration between the chef and the sommelier creates combinations that add a new dimension to every course — and some restaurants are worth visiting precisely for this experience.

Marie B

Marie B is an experiential restaurant serving a tasting menu in the form of a carte blanche. Let yourself be surprised not only by the individual dishes and ingredients, but also by the wines paired with them. The wine list here is curated by sommelier Zdeněk Oudes, who received the Michelin Sommelier Award in 2025 for his exceptional work in the field of wine. You can be sure that you’ll truly enjoy the wine pairings here.

Marie B shares a space with the Vin de Marie wine shop, which offers wines from Central Europe, Italy, and France. The selection features both small and renowned winemakers who share a respectful approach to their vineyards, terroir, and the wine itself.

La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise

Of course, our selection wouldn’t be complete without the Michelin-starred La Degustation — a sister establishment of Marie B. They carry wines from small European winemakers, with an emphasis on the origin of the grapes, as they consider vineyard work to be of the utmost importance.

“At both Marie B and La Degustation, we offer two wine pairings. One is focused primarily on discovery — both local and international winemakers we’ve met, whose wines we feel compelled to share with our guests. The other focuses on classic European wine regions, but again, primarily on small family-run producers. In many cases, these are also private allocations intended exclusively for our two restaurants,” emphasises sommelier Zdeněk Oudes.

La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise is a one-star Michelin Guide restaurant. Sample the menu prepared by head chef Oldřich Sahajdák and his team.

The tasting menu presents a seasonal ingredients from select farmers, gatherers and hunters. We place a lot of energy into finding them, and cook to emphasise the individuality of each ingredient.

Our dishes are rooted in traditional cuisine, finding inspiration in the cycles of nature, and the relationships between the ingredients we select. When we prepare game, careful attention is payed to the environment in which the animal lives, what it eats, and how the seasons influence its flavour.

Our sommeliers contemplate and experiment with wine and non-alcoholic food pairings, mixing fruit, vegetables, herbs and nuts into their drinks.
