Prague pubs where you'll find the perfect pint

Petr Tichý at U Zlatého tygra
"I go to Tygr to see Petr," says Ambiente bartender Tomáš Krčmář. And he’s definitely not alone! Petr Tichý is the icon of the U Zlatého tygra pub. He’s headstrong, keeps himself to himself, but pours beers with a flourish of constant chatter. And he even has a specific signature, which every bartender notices right away – he first surrounds the pint with foam, and only then starts pouring.
Tomáš Hrnčíř at Lokál U Bílé kuželky
A maestro who almost every Ambiente bartender will mention when you ask who they learned from or were inspired by. Tomáš is the national champion in bartending, and has already opened two Lokál locations – Dlouhá and Kuželka. You can still find him behind the bar in the latter.
Lukáš Vitásek at the Na Hradčanské restaurant
Švejk behind the bar? That’s who Lukáš Vitásek will remind you of. The winner of the 2015 Master Bartender competition, Tomáš Krčmář says: "He has perfect technique, his pouring is like a symphony. He’s very respected among the Prague taprooms."
Bohouš Kundrt from U Jelínků
As well as excellent technique, the legend of Pilsen Prazdroj also has a refined look – a curled moustache, thanks to which you definitely won’t confuse him with anyone. He started at the U Zlatého tygra pub, then moved to U Jelínků and stayed there – he’s been behind the bar for more than 30 years!
Tomáš Babica from U Pinkasů restaurant
Look out for a waistcoat and neckerchief – instantly recognisable, Tomáš basically never takes off his bartender "uniform". This guy is a real legend – and even Plzeňský Prazdroj say it!
Igor Kolivoško from the U Červeného jelena restaurant
Holder of the Slovak Master Bartender title, Igor has an apron studded with dozens of badges, held up with braces decorated in a pattern of pints of beer. He’s a well-known persona among bartenders, who gained his fame not only for his unconventional uniform, but mainly for his precisely mastered technique.
Filip Vokatý at U Černého vola
This establishment on Loretánské náměstí is a legend in itself – but though it’s a very old pub, they’re always on trend when it comes to beer. That's thanks to bartender Filip Vokatý, a familiar face to any regulars. "After this funny oddball stood behind the tap, the quality of the beer visibly went up," says fellow bartender Lucie Janečková appreciatively. The hour at which you can get a beer here is just as peculiar – they open at ten in the morning!
Tereza Pospíšilová from Pult
Among the legends, we couldn’t fail to mention the reigning champion of Zlatá pípa, the Ambiente tap competition. Terka, whom many of you have probably met before at Lokál Hamburk, looks after not only the beer at Pult, but also oversees the running of the entire establishment. Stop by to say hello, and admire the trophy that shines on the bar.
