Ambiente Collector's Cards: How to play and what to expect

What you'll find in the collection
This limited edition contains 156 unique, collectible cards. In decks of five, you'll find random combinations of restaurants, personalities, iconic food and drink and historical moments from thirty years of Ambiente. Each restaurant is represented by three to six cards, so you can collect along different axes: by establishment, personality or even by food. When you start, you won't want to stop collecting.
Four types of cards and their values
Each card carries a different type of information. When playing, these are used as values to beat, compare or collect cards to complete each suit. So, it pays to know what you will find on which card.
Restaurant cards
These show one of the Ambiente group's businesses. On each card you will find:
- the year the restaurant opened
- number of seats
- the price index, from 1 to 3
- a fun fact about the history or operation of the business
Personality cards
These capture the people who make up Ambiente, from chefs to managers to behind-the-scenes staff. On each card you will find:
- the year they joined Ambiente
- their position
- a fun fact or detail that few people know
Food and beverage cards
These cards map the iconic dishes and drinks that are part of the Ambiente menu. Each card carries:
- the name of the dish or drink
- the restaurant where you can find it
Cards of interest
Each establishment has its own secrets, and these separate Fun Facts cards bring them to light.
Now, we deal.
Rebidding
A classic card game for two or more players. Whoever has the stronger card takes the rest. Your target? To get all the opponents' cards.
What you need
- Play with only restaurant cards, only personality cards, or combine them. Before the game, agree on a value that will apply for the entire game. When using mixed cards, use the year; this is the only value that is common to both types of cards.
- Minimum of 2 players.
Game preparation
- Select restaurant cards, personality cards, or both, and shuffle them face down.
- Deal the cards equally among all players. Each person keeps their deck face down, not looking at the cards in front.
- Before the game begins, the players agree on one value that will be used to beat throughout the game. Possible values are:
- for restaurant cards: year opened, number of seats or price index,
- for personality cards: year of joining Ambiente,
- for a mix of restaurants and personalities: year (of opening/entry). - Also agree on whether the higher or lower number wins. For year, it can be interesting either way - an older restaurant or longest serving person at Ambiente carries weight.
Game flow
- Each player turns the top card of their deck face up.
- Players compare the chosen value on their cards.
- The player with the strongest value takes all the cards played and adds them to the bottom of his deck.
- Tie: If two or more players have the same value, each player sets that card aside and reveals the next card. The one with the higher value takes all the cards set aside.
- Play continues until one player has all the cards, or if the players agree on a time limit and it expires.
Quartet
A popular game in which players try to collect complete sets. Each set consists of four cards from the same restaurant.
What you need
- A minimum of 8 complete sets of four cards, so at least 32 cards. The more sets, the longer and more exciting the game.
- Build sets by restaurant: each four-card set comes from the same restaurant.
- 2-6 players. The game is best played in groups of three or four.
Game preparation
- Use the available cards to make foursomes based on restaurants.
- Shuffle all the selected cards and deal them equally among the players.
- Look at your own deck, but don't show the other players.
- Determine the first player. Maybe the one who shuffled the cards.
The course of the game
- Take it in turns to look at your cards and choose the set (restaurant) you want to collect.
- Choose any opponent, and ask for a specific card - for example, "Give me the Brasileiro card." Only a card from a set from which the player themselves holds at least one card may be requested.
- If the opponent has a card: they must give it up. The player who made the request takes the card and may ask again, of any player.
- if the opponent does not have the card: they say "I don't have it!". The turn passes clockwise to the next player. - Once a player has collected all four cards of a set, they immediately places them face up on the table.
End of game
The game ends when all sets are dealt. The player with the most completed sets wins.
A tip
Watch what cards the other players ask for - this reveals which sets they are collecting. A good player also remembers the rejected requests and guesses who is holding what in their hand.
Where to buy cards
A pack of five cards can be purchased at all Ambiente locations, the Ambiente Club and on the e-shop, while supplies last.
